AHS COVID-19 Podcast: Labour and Delivery during the Pandemic
On Alberta Health Services’ COVID-19 Podcast, Dr. Colin Birch answers questions on pregnancy during the pandemic.
Dr. Birch says that hospitals have involved many steps to ensure that it is a safe place to go to have your baby at this time, and your delivery plans should not be impacted by the pandemic.
A study from China suggests that babies may have abnormal heart rates during labor, and therefore it is important that you have your baby at a hospital.
Currently, only one visitor can support the pregnant person in labour and in postpartum. No flowers or balloons would be permitted.
Midwives are part of the health team and thus will continue with their care. Unfortunately, doulas will be counted as a visitor.
