Pregnant and recently pregnant people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released information regarding COVID-19 and pregnancy. Although the overall risks are low, if you are pregnant or were recently pregnant, you are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 compared to people who are not pregnant.

Other factors that can increase risk of severe illnesses are:

  • Underlying medical conditions

  • Being older than 25 years

  • Living and working in a community with high numbers of cases

  • Living and working in a community with low levels of vaccines

COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant now or in the future. CDC also recommends that these groups of people should get a booster shot and stay up to date with their vaccines. Stay tuned until next week for our post on staying up to date with the COVID-19 vaccine.
