Prenatal maternal distress during COVID linked to alterations in infant brain development

The Pregnancy During the Pandemic study was featured in an article from Medical Life Sciences News.

Our study results demonstrated higher prenatal maternal distress after the pandemic began. A higher rate of prenatal distress in mothers was linked to changes in the structure and function of the brain of their infants

Providing social support to mothers is important as it can dampen feelings of anxiety and depression. Overall, social support is important to not only support mothers but to reduce the resulting harm to the infant.
