Stress Management During Pregnancy

It is normal to have mixed emotions and feel uncertainty during pregnancy because increasing hormones and fatigue may cause mood swings. Here are some common changes to your mood during pregnancy:

  1. First trimester (1-13 weeks): morning sickness and extreme fatigue can make you moody. Happiness as well as anxiety about a new pregnancy are also common.

  2. Second trimester (14-27 weeks): morning sickness, fatigue and moodiness usually improve or go away. You may feel more forgetful and disorganized. Changes to your body- weight gain, visible pregnancy, or feeling the baby moving- can also make you feel number of emotions.

  3. Third trimester (28-40 weeks): Forgetfulness may continue, and you may be more irritable than before due to tiredness and discomfort. Anxiety about childbirth may increase as your due date approaches.

With all the changes in your life, you may feel stressed at times. The My Health Alberta website lists several relaxation exercises and helpful time management tips and skills:
