Study on the effects of the Pfizer vaccine on pregnant individuals

A study in Israel showed that vaccinated pregnant individuals experienced significantly lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection along with lower hospitalization rates.

This study looked at over 15000 pregnant individuals, half of whom were vaccinated and the other half who were not. The two groups were matched by age, gestational age, place of residence as well as number of times they had given birth and flu vaccination status.

Risk reduction rose over time after vaccination. However, there were no significant differences between the two groups over rates of preeclampsia or other birth outcomes or complications.

Vaccine-related side effects were also low - only 68 out of 7000 participants reported mild symptoms such as headaches or weakness, all of which were resolved within 1 day.

This was the first study that looked at the efficacy of COVID vaccines among pregnant women.
