Healthy Eating During Pregnancy: Iodine
A daily amount of 250mcg of iodine recommended for pregnant persons. Iodine is a mineral that works to help the body synthesize thyroid hormone. This hormone helps with muscle contractions and bone development by breaking down fats and stimulating nutrient absorption.
Healthy Eating During Pregnancy: Omega-3 fatty acids
1.4g daily intake is recommended for fetal development, particularly eye and brain development. Omega-3 also helps in fighting depression and anxiety, lowering blood pressure, improve eye health and it reduces the chance of heart disease.

Pregnant persons should aim to have 28g of fibre in their daily diet. Fibre normalizes bowel movements and lowers cholesterol levels which will aid in maintaining a healthy weight.

During the final six months of pregnancy, daily iron intake should be increased to 27mg to support an increase in red blood cells and fetal tissues. However, iron isn’t needed as much during the first three months, so if you are experiencing nausea and vomiting it is safe to stop supplementing during this time.
